POS Equipment Security
Kartuku was the first in Indonesia and also the Asia Pacific region to have been certified based on Visa’s and MasterCard’s POS Equipment Security Guidelines and Best Practices.

Visa’s and MasterCard’s POS Equipment Security Guidelines and Best Practices is, as the name of the standards suggests, a set of guidelines and best practices for enhancing EDC/POS equipment security. The set of guidelines and best practices are the result of a collaboration between MasterCard International, Visa International and their participating member financial institutions in the Asia/Pacific Region.

Lots of focus is always given to the back-end security of payment infrastructure, e.g. the networks and systems. But attention to the front-end infrastructure, e.g. EDC/POS terminals, is just as imperative. Many risk exposures exist at the EDC/POS terminal level, which are not covered by PCI-DSS. Kartuku has incorporated EDC/POS equipment security measures outlined in Visa’s and MasterCard’s POS Equipment Security Guidelines into its security and risk management policies to:

- Minimize the opportunity for EDC/POS equipment to be illegally
modified or substituted for fraudulent use

- Minimize the opportunity for compromise of confidential or sensitive
data through the use of EDC/POS equipment

- Establish a set of ‘best practices’ for the EDC/POS equipment life
cycle (design, development, implementation and operation)
